How does the typing exam simulation work?
The applied typing exam simulation measures how fast and accurately you can type the on-screen text within 3 minutes (180 seconds). The text is selected automatically by the system. You are expected to type at least 90 correct words (about 30 words per minute) with no errors or repeats. The simulation uses the standard QWERTY layout.
All exam texts are prepared in lowercase with no punctuation; you stay faithful to the text and don't add punctuation, digits, or anything not in the text. So practicing in the no-punctuation (spelling-off) mode is the closest rehearsal to the exam format.
Evaluation criteria (word-based)
Evaluation is word-based; each of the following counts as 1 word error:
- Extra keystroke: an extra letter typed (justice β justicce)
- Missing keystroke: a missing letter (justice β justic)
- Letter transposition: two letters swapped (justice β jsutice)
- Character error: punctuation/digit instead of a letter (justice β .ustice)
- Word split / merge and extra spaces
- Mixed error: adding punctuation/digits/letters contrary to the text
The unfinished last word when time runs out and skipped words are not counted individually; however, if you skip 14 words in total, the exam is failed. If the wrong-word ratio is high (the text's meaning breaks down), the result may be invalidated.
