Frequently asked questions about typing duels
＋What is a typing duel?
A typing duel is a one-on-one (1v1) typing battle. You type the same text at the same time; whoever wins 2 of 3 rounds wins the duel. You find an opponent or invite a friend with an invite code.
＋How do you win a duel?
A duel is best of 3 rounds. In each round, whoever types more correct words wins the round; winning 2 rounds wins the duel. On a tie, speed (WPM) and finish order decide it.
＋What happens if no opponent is found?
If no suitable opponent is found, a balanced bot joins within about 12 seconds, so you start the duel right away without waiting. If you like, you can also invite a real opponent with an invite code via “Invite a friend.”
＋What is the ELO rating, and how does it change?
ELO is the skill rating used in chess and competitive games. Your rating rises when you win a duel and falls when you lose. The rating only changes if both players are members; playing against a bot or guest doesn't affect your rating (for fair rankings).
＋Is the duel free? Is membership required?
The duel is completely free. You can duel as a guest too; however, earning an ELO rating and entering the duel leaderboard requires a free member login.
＋Can I duel from my phone (mobile)?
Yes. The duel can be played on phones and tablets using the same mobile-safe input method as the speed test; autosuggest and swipe typing are blocked for a fair battle.
＋Can I have a private duel with my friend?
Yes. “Invite a friend” gives you a private duel link (invite code). When you send this link to your friend, the two of you duel one-on-one in the same match.
＋How do rematches work?
When the duel ends, you can challenge the same opponent again with the “Rematch” button. A bot accepts a rematch instantly; for a rematch with a real opponent, the other side must also accept.
